Experience Using Chiral Balance DCI

Taking Chiral Balance D-chiro-inositol: what to expect.

How should I take my Chiral Balance D-chiro-inositol?

In the original studies of D-chiro-inositol (DCI), DCI was administered in the morning before food. For that reason, Chiral Balance recommends this time of day. We also recommend taking Chiral Balance DCI with water, because the supplement is a water-soluble nutrient.

It is important to take Chiral Balance DCI on a regular schedule. If you forget or miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible and resume your regular schedule the next day.

Will I need to take Chiral Balance D-chiro-inositol forever?

Whatever benefits you experience from using Chiral Balance D-chiro-inositol will continue as long as you use the supplement as a natural part of healthy metabolism. Any symptoms Chiral Balance D-chiro-inositol has relieved will likely return if you stop taking the supplement.

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Erika,

Many clinicians might term your collection of symptoms “lean PCOS.” Many consider lean PCOS to be an entirely separate condition from PCOS and they manage it differently. However, even for a lean PCOSer, your presentation is a little bit unusual, which may be why you’ve had such a confusing back-and-forth diagnosis. If you haven’t been evaluated for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CHA), you need to be. I’m not a doctor, but CHA seems to fit what you’ve described at least as well as lean PCOS. CHA is much more rare than PCOS, though. All of that being said, if your doctor has ruled out other explanations and is confident with the PCOS diagnosis, then it is certainly worth trying DCI. An entirely separate study of lean women with PCOS found dramatic benefits from DCI as well.

Misse says:

I REALLY wanted to love & praise DCI, but I just can’t.
I see it is working for so many women majority more great reviews then not. I found this made all of my symptoms worse!! I’m not exaggerating or trying to be a downer, but it’s so depressing hoping for the best from this supplement & getting more then the worst! I was only one 1 pill a day as I am only 55 kilos (110 or so pounds I think?) I put on weight instantly!! I broke out severely, everywhere! Around my mouth, cheeks, forehead.. Acne is one of my pcos symptoms anyway, but I never have broken out to this extent. Also something so confusing & probably more depressing then the terrible acne & weight gain, was my hair falling out! I would sit & cry, I had long luscious beautiful hair, & I can feel how thinned down it is now, & cannot go without losing chunks into a comb after washing. My body hair also has become very dark & thick it is disgusting, I feel absolutely disgusting! I had to discontinue in fear of becoming bald, hairy, & an acneic monster! I ordered 2 bottles, without starting the second, I have no idea if I can get a refund or send back but I would appreciate if I could. This is just my rant, the majority of reviews are excellent & a lot of women are benefiting a great deal, I just happen to be the unlucky one out of the majority suffering from it :(

I was diagnosed PCOS when i was 13. I have only had maybe 1 year worth periods since i was 9 which im 20 yrs old now. And i have ordered chiralbalance and start it next week. Hopefully im making the right decison to take it.

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Sheila,

We hope so too!
Please feel free to contact us with any questions along the way.

Kristina says:

How do we know if it is working? I started using it 2/2/13 and am on my second bottle. I dont see any changes, does it take a while for some ladies?

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Kristina,

Most women start to see improvements in 8 weeks, but it can take longer. For many women, the first improvement that they notice is an increase in energy and better mood. Other changes include resuming a normal menstrual cycle and improvement in skin issues such as acne and shedding of head hair. Other changes, which are sometimes subtle, are decreased cravings for food and normal thirst (some women with PCOS don’t even know that they’re more thirsty than most people!). And there are others, but these are common. If you’ve been checking your bloodwork or having ultrasounds on a regular basis, there are often improvements in biochemical markers and imaging results as well.

Sheila says:

I took my regular dose At 8am and realized i forgot yesturdays so i took them today at 12pm. Is That Bad????

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Sheila,

You will be fine. If you miss a dose in the future, remember that it does not help to take extra the next day. Any excess DCI that your body does not feel it needs will be disposed of through urine.

Kristina says:

Since last post, acne is alot better, still no AF. However, have gained 15 pounds, and this is not good since I am overweight to begin with. Why is it making me gain when I am dieting and excersising?? HELP!

Kristina says:

Last post disappeared, so writing again. Since my last post above, my acne has improved substantially. Still waiting on monthly visitor (or no so monthly). I have GAINED weight – 15 lbs since starting it though. I have been following a low carb diet and excersise daily. Please tell me if there is something I am doing wrong.

Chiral Balance says:

Kristina,

Your post didn’t disappear, but an admin must approve it before it appears in the feed.

I am sorry to hear that you are gaining weight, but I can’t know why this is happening. Your acne clearing up may indicate that the DCI is lowering your androgens, but I’m sure this is little comfort.

If you feel that DCI is causing more problems than it is solving, I encourage you to take advantage of our return policy.

fiona says:

My daughter has been using DCI since last July, and although it has certainly helped with giving her more regular periods, she has also noticed a definite increase in weight, which she struggles with anyway. There have been no other improvements in symptoms such as facial hair, and skin problems. In fact the hair may have got worse. We are not sure if she is ovulating and at the last scan there were as many cysts. Not sure whether to continue with it, as the weight itself is a worry. Please reply, as I didn’t see where my last post went. Thanks

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Fiona,

This is definitely not the typical response to DCI, but I have heard a similar story from a few women over the years. However, this is different because of the steady increase you described. Most women who have reported an increase in weight found that it was nearly immediate and in most cases it turned out to be water weight related to their cycle, which many had never had before. For these women, it typically resolved on its own over the course of their cycle as the water weight came back off. Your daughter’s case is certainly a little more puzzling. Ultimately, D-chiro-inositol is a part of normal insulin signaling, and so it enhances glucose disposal. One of the possible fates of glucose is to be stored as fat, but that doesn’t sound likely since she is eating right and exercising. Without a more complete history, I can’t even speculate what other factors might be causing this weight gain. So, if the only thing new in her regimen is DCI, and if you feel confident that DCI is the culprit in this unexpected weight gain, then the only answer might be to decrease the amount of DCI she is taking to 600 mg daily, or to stop DCI altogether. If the weight gain doesn’t stop soon, she my want to consider those 2 options. I would also encourage a quick review of other changes to her medications/diet/exercise to maybe find another explanation as well.

can I take this at night?

Susan says:

Hey there!
I was wondering if DCI could help manage Bipolar 2 disorder. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Bipolar 2 and also have Acid Reflux. I strongly believe this is all tied to the insulin resistance and was wondering if anybody else had any information or experience with DCI treating Bipolar. Thanks again!

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Jean,

Yes, you can take D-chiro-inositol at night. However, it is better if it is taken during the day, when blood sugar and insulin levels tend to be higher and when it can do the most good.

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Susan,

There have never been any clinical trials concerning D-chiro-inositol and bipolar disorder, so I can’t responsibly recommend DCI you you for that. Likewise for acid reflux. However, there is a correlation between insulin resistance, GERD and esophagitis, so it is an intriguing though. If you do find any concrete information on DCI and bipolar or GERD, please let us know.

Emily Morrill says:

I have a question: Is this ok to take with 1000 mgs of Metformin? That is what my doctor has me on and I hope that the Metformin doesn’t conflict with the DCI. So far I have seen one AMAZING result from taking it for only a week!! I don’t know if it’s appropriate to say on here, but let’s just say I am loving it already and hope it will help me have a period since it’s been months! ;)

marie says:

I have been taking DCI for over a month without any positive results. My acne has gotten worse.
i take 1200 mg at the same time (10.00 am) every day.

How long can it take for DCI to help with androgen problems such as acne? can it get worse in the beginning?

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Emily,

DCI and Metformin are bother insulin sensitizers; Met is a drug and DCI is a B vitamin used in insulin signal transduction. In a sense, they complement each other, although if DCI works for you, you might consider discussing that with your doctor; S/he might want to revise your Metformin prescription.

Chiral Balance says:

Hi Marie,

I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t had seen any improvements so far. Worsening acne is definitely not the typical response that we hear about. For some women, resuming a normal cycle can include some unwanted consequences like cyclic wait gain or cyclic break outs. If you were already cycling normally, this may not apply to you, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
We recommend an 8 week trial. We also recommend taking DCI in divided doses, so if you are taking 2 capsules daily, consider taking 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening for better efficacy. If you do decide that DCI isn’t right for you, please take advantage of our refund policy. It is in place precisely so that people can feel confident in trying DCI and not being out of pocket if they don’t see the results they were hoping for.
