D-chiro-inositol (DCI) is a member of the B vitamin family. Most people naturally synthesize enough D-chiro-inositol as a part of healthy metabolism, making it from the dietarily abundant and closely related substances pinitol and myo-inositol.

DCI is used during insulin signal transduction, the body's response to insulin. If DCI is deficient, insulin resistance can develop.
