I ordered a shipment of d-chiro inositol (8 bottles) to be shipped to Canada.
The package was held in customs for over a week and I’ve been told that we are going to be charged 63.00 + for duties and fees.
On your website it states that there are no duties or fees associated with shipments to Canada and Mexico. Where can I find documents supporting this claim so I can appeal the duties once my shipment arrives?

The United States Postal Service advises that when shipping to Malaysia: “Many types of merchandise require import licenses that addressees must obtain from the Malaysian authorities. Senders should be assured before mailing that addressees can obtain licenses if needed.” Our harmonized tariff code is 2936.29. Unfortunately, you probably cannot receive our product without an appropriate license.

I thought I should let you know that this cannot be shipped to Canada duty free to all Provinces. We have a federal tax called the GST (goods and services tax). Five of our Provinces have opted to combine the GST and Provincial taxes (PST) to form a “harmonized tax” called HST. British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfounland all have HST which means we must pay the taxes and fees (duties). I was charged almost $40 for my shipment. I have contacted Customs and they confirmed that vitamins and supplements do indeed have duty.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have corrected outdated and inaccurate statements throughout the website.
I think Leah may be confusing duties with taxes. All merchandise shipped into Canada is subject to the same HST (sales taxes) that would be charged in the province to which it is shipped. Since HST is high (Ontario is 13%) this can be a shock, but it is no higher than you would pay if you went to a store in Canada and bought the same item. Duties are different, and are not charged on items made in North America (because of NAFTA). So if your product is made in the US (?) there should be no duties–only taxes. One other surprise fee that can plague the cross-border shopper is the extra fee UPS sometimes charges to shuttle the item across the border. These fees can be excessive, but are only charged if the shipper uses the lowest-priced (i.e., ground) version of UPS. For other levels (e.g., overnight or 2nd day air) UPS includes the shuttling across the border fee. Because of being burned (elsewhere ) with those fees, I always ask that my US purchases be shipped via US Postal Service (int’l shipping) rather than UPS. So far I have never had any surprise fees (other than sales tax) when having things shipped via US Postal Service international mail.
Update on shipping to Canada: My first shipment (2 bottles) was not charged sales tax at the border and arrived reasonably quickly (under 2 weeks). My second shipment (6 bottles) was charged tax (HST of $33.45 plus a $5 service fee the postal service seems to have added for their trouble). So collection of tax and delivery speed by Canada Post seems to be pretty random. I did find one Canadian brand of D-chiro-inositol at my health food store, but it was twice the price. (It was the same price per bottle, but it only had 30 (600mg) pills instead of 60). So the Chiral Balance DCI cost me about half as much as it would have cost locally. It took 3 weeks to get here (3 days to get to the border, and two and a half weeks to get thru customs and delivered!) but paying half the price is well worth the wait. Note: both shipments were sent US Postal Service, international, and delivered by Canada Post.
I was all set to order 2 bottles till I got to the shipping costs. Seriously? $90 to send 2 bottles to Australia? I could send an elephant for that much…well not quite but you get my point. Why is shipping so expensive? I buy a lot online but have never seen prices that high for something small.

We have options from the United States Postal Services, USPS, that are in the range of $25. Options with UPS are more expensive, as they’re a private shipper and offer much faster delivery times. Also, all of our rates or live quotes from their respective shippers, we do not mark up shipping or add any handling fee. The rates you see on our site our exactly what you would pay to ship such a package if you went into a US post office or a UPS facility.

An import license would be required, and for this reason we do not ship to India. If you have friends or family in any of our allowed countries, they could order on your behalf and ship it to you as a gift, which might enable you to circumvent the import rules.

Allowed addresses are the same for both billing and shipping addresses unfortunately. If you would like to sign up for a PayPal account, which is another allowed payment method through the online store, you can fund the PayPal account with a Singapore credit card and then complete your order using PayPal. Unfortunately, I don’t have any other remedy to offer, since we don’t ship to Singapore, we can’t accept credit cards based in Singapore.

Yes we ship to Israll, live shipping rates are available during checkout and depending on the carrier and the class of service, the rates will likely be anywhere between ~$30 for the United States Postal Service up to ~$100 for UPS. UPS is much faster, but obviously it is also much more expensive. Please note that we do not mark up shipping, we charge exactly what our carriers charge.

Live shipping rates are available through the online store; you do not need to complete a purchase to see them, you just need to put an item or two in your cart. They range from $25 for United States Postal Service to much more for UPS.
